Monday: Brooksby Campus - Daniel Newnham

With Nell absent, the other three (Toppy, D and Noel) all participated again. Daniel tested the Learners' attention spans by doing a classroom style morning teaching some basic skills in cartooning. Drawing expressions, movement, proportions and caricatures (see Gallery) were all covered. The Learners joined in well with some warm-up games and made a committed start to the exercises. Lurch had some trouble settling as he felt the exercises too basic. Concentration slipped towards lunchtime, but several of the Learners did some good caricatures. Toppy worked well to caricature Peter (Popeye) and Slim caricatured Daniel and Popeye and he and Lurch both made spontaneous animations (see animations).

In the afternoon, as a reward for the morning's work, the Learners did some independent drawing and reading. Toppy was distracted and left to talk to Suzanne. Later he, Snoop and Popeye went off to take photographs. Everyone joined in some boisterous games of guessing hummed tunes and guessing the parents of new animals. The drawer picks the names of two or three animals out of a hat and draws their offspring, the guesser has to figure out the original animals.

Tuesday: Melton - Stacey Prendeville (Flash) & Daniel Newnham

The previous day had seen a little trouble over Dizzie paying D attention whilst Noel was absent and Toppy getting upset over it. This situation escalated and it became apparent there was something else also going on. Stacey turned up to find a group of distracted Learners who had earlier in the project gone on with the mantra "when do we go on the computers?" Now, however, the group was in unison saying, "Computers, no, that's boring, can't we do something else"!

So, after pulling teeth to get them to do a little photo manipulations and introduce them to simple animating in Flash, (see Animations) she showed them a DVD of animations created in Flash. Unfortunately, Toppy was was too distracted to do any real work and D left the group in the afternoon to join the Capoeira group. A disruptive day for everyone. Stacey went home to have the, by now traditional, nervous breakdown.

Wednesday. Melton - Stacey Prendeville & Daniel Newnham

Snoop, Lurch, Slim and Dizzie all participated better than the previous day - despite the return of Noel and Nell. The couples kicked off again in a big way, refusing to cooperate. Daniel and Natalie Mck were occupied most of the morning with this problem and the four were removed from the project (see Hoodies Revenge). More importantly, the remaining four were getting on better and, despite some troubles (due to lack of communication over one Learner's Dyslexia), they all began creating work in Flash.

Thursday: Melton - Stacey Prendeville & Daniel Newnham

The Learners were much more focused without the antics of the "couples." Slim and Lurch were getting to grips well with Flash and Dizzie and Snoop were into the idea of making a website about rap/hip-hop. Everyone assumed a hip-hop moniker and made fake biographies for their gangsta characters.

There were some continuing problems due to several IT issues, but the Learners were persuaded to persevere. At lunchtime, Daniel brought in a punch-bag as an alternative to football. This proved popular.

Friday: Melton - Daniel Newnham

The Learners wanted to continue with their work in Flash. As there had been previous chaos caused by moving activities when Learners were making progress, everyone returned to the computer room. Without Stacey to support the Learners it was difficult to keep them focused as they often needed one-on-one support. However, they were generally cooperative and managed to complete some parts of the web pages. Slim and Lurch were particularly interested although, predictably, there were issues with use of the internet.
