Music Week Three
Monday: Brooksby - The SEND Project The day set off slowly due to the late arrival of the Learners' taxis. SEND went over the ILPs again because all tracks needed to be completed by the following day's trip to the recording studio. Romeo was absent and left the project. Several PC tablets were missing and, due to the change of site, no facts could be established or discussion started on what had gone on. Stig and Benpy's work was now missing, which led to problems. On the up side, SEND handed out information about Music college courses at Confetti in Nottingham. Learners generally got on well finishing their tracks and Benpy started a new one. Jay recorded vocals and was horrified to hear the playback of his stylings. I Believe I Can Fly became I Believe I Can Cry, but, after the initial crisis of confidence, he ploughed on got the vocals laid down. The day ended with a Beat Box and Scratching workshop and a quiz competition which also served to show what had been learnt. Tuesday: Brooksby - The SEND Project SEND reminded the Learners of the need to complete their work for the following day. The group worked well and completed a course evaluation form. Emily from PLUS came in and interviewed. Stig did start work on a new track with Moon, but was uncommitted and didn't finish in time. Ka, Stig and Benpy were unruly again around the site. Jay grew in confidence and "I Believe I Can Fly" was completed. There were difficulties with Peg having to wait to complete her vocals. As usual it was a need for one on one attention. The missing PC tablets and their effect on everyone's work was discussed again.
Wednesday: Arch Recording Studio (Burton Upon Trent) with The SEND Project With the exception of Stig, who had failed to complete his track, everyone worked individually with Paul (the sound engineer) and SEND to mix their tracks. Meanwhile, the others waited in the rehearsal space and played instruments (drums, percussion, guitar) until it was their turn. There was a little trouble with regard to treating the instruments properly but, overall, it was surprisingly tuneful. There was a dubious incident at lunchtime involving, Ka, Stig and the keys to a sit on mower (see Distant Trouble) but behaviour was generally good and the work done was successful.
Thursday: Brooksby - The SEND Project SEND were stuck in traffic and arrived late which led to an unruly atmosphere. This wasn't helped by the on-site pub in the adjacent building being unlocked and Ka, Stig and Benpy going to check it out - true to form. However, the Learners signed a thank you card for SEND and drew them some portraits. See the flattering likenesses on the People page. The Learners went through their ILPs and discussed what had taken place. Stig was disappointed with what he had achieved, after what had been a good start. Certainly how everyone else perceived and commented on his involvement affected him and he was distracted. Unfortunately, he had been involved in the earlier Drama project with almost identical results. Winston talked privately with him about future opportunities and use of talent. With the exception of Stig, the others all received a CD of the tracks they had all made and a certificate recording their ILP achievements. Peg also received a £5 HMV voucher for scoring the highest in the quiz. Everyone was very positive about the project. (See Results.) Friday: Melton - Last day |
