Monday: Melton - Daniel Newnham & Yvette de Sylva

The day started away from the computers, playing word and picture games. The Learners took part well and had overcome any issues they had around spelling/reading abilities and really enjoyed themselves. Snoop and Dizzie were active and also competitive. A rewards system introduced for the project had brought out the competitive natures and some surprise interests in the Learners (see Results: An Animation Success Story).

In the afternoon everyone returned to the computer room and tried to complete simple bits of work that could be used for more complicated work upon Stacey's return.

Tuesday: Melton - Stacey Prendeville & Daniel Newnham

By now the Learners had all developed a much better relationship with Stacey and were concentrating for longer periods. Lurch and Slim had become quite capable in Flash and Slim was helping the others to solve problems. Lurch and Slim were working on designing characters of each of the Learner's hip-hop alter egos. Snoop and Dizzie made good use of their workbooks and in-between arguing over which music to have on, made up web pages about their alter egos and music heroes.

Wednesday: Melton - Stacey Prendeville & Daniel Newnham

Despite an incident where one of the Learners flipped out (over learning issues) and tried to wipe out all the work done on the computers, the Flash animations progressed further. All the Learners used Lurch's designs for their characters and animated them in Flash. Slim finished his quickly and went on to make another animation all about his character's 'blinging lifestyle, crib, ride, etc'. The others were impressed and started work on similar animations.

Thursday: Melton - Stacey Prendeville & Daniel Newnham

This was a good day. Everyone participated in getting the Flash animations as finished as possible and the final points and rewards were totted up. The Learners were given the chance to be taken out into town for lunch (a planned trip to the cinema had been a logistical nightmare) and they went for the surprise choice of McDonald's. After a little more work in the afternoon, everyone received their points rewards packages and outstanding IRP rewards. There was a little jealousy over who had received what, but the overall effect was certainly positive.
